About Pilates for

EVERY Body

Pilates is named after the man who invented it, Joseph Pilates (1883-1967). He originally called it Controlology because the exercises improve strength, control, focus and flexibility. Many people think that Pilates is only for gym bunnies and yogis, but Joseph Pilates was still teaching in his seventies and he taught everyone from dancers to prisoners. Joseph Pilates is reported to have faced a number of health and physical challenges throughout his life including polio and asthma. Pilates for EVERY Body is based on the ethos that everyone can benefit from Pilates and there should be no barriers to taking part.

About Kay

I have been practicing Pilates for more than 12 years now. Pilates didn’t just change what I could do with my body, it changed how I felt about my body. I want to share that experience with other people, especially people with a disability or a health condition who may have had difficult experiences in exercise classes or at the gym. I will work with you so you can be your best, not what anyone else thinks you can or can’t do. I have a level 3 qualification in Pilates (Active IQ) and a level 3 qualification in programming exercise for disabled clients (HFE). I am insured by Fitpro.

In addition to Pilates I am also a swimmer, handcyclist and dancer. I am a social scientist with a PhD in sociology. My research expertise is disability, including sport and exercise, and mental health with a particular focus on self-harm.
